So you are in the throws of creating a brand, spanking new site and you want to make sure that your SEO is given a running start. Well there are a few fairly simple things that you can do to push it in the right direction and – good news – they don’t take a great deal of time to do.
We’ll give you these tit bits in bite sized chunks, so check back in a few weeks for tips numbered 3 – 6.
- Verify with Webmaster Tools
It is a good idea to verify your website with the webmaster tools for each of the major search engines. These are incredibly helpful and are a great way to identify and iron out any problems you might have with the site, right at the start. You can submit your site map and they have various nifty ways of helping you to discover any little bugs and errors. Here are links to the big 3:
- Set up Google Analytics
Everyone with a website should be analysing the heck out of it with Google Analytics. It’s free and fantastic. It’s simple to install (if you know what you’re doing of course – if not you can pay someone to install it for you without breaking the bank). You will learn a lot about your site and the behaviour of your visitors by watching who clicks what pages and where they were in the world when they did it, amongst other things.Rather than just observing, you should really use this tool to influence how customers interact with your website. For example, if you want people to work their way to the contact page, then get in touch, make sure there is a contact form on there and monitor how many people fill it in. If the answer is ‘not enough’ then how could your site be working harder to achieve the goal?
We’ll give you more tasks to optimise your new website in the coming weeks so check back soon.
